Elin Brugge

Hi there! I’m currently in the final year of my Bachelor’s as a Biology major at the University of Florida, pursuing the pre-med track. Alongside my major, I’m also exploring Anthropology and Health Disparities in Society through minors and Medical Anthropology through a certificate. I've also been a member of UF's Honors Program and the University Research Scholars Program since my freshman year. I am part of the University Scholars Program for the 2025-2026 year, pursuing a research project exploring auto- and allo-polyploidization in C. elegans in the Baer Lab. Outside of that project, I work as a research assistant at the Baer Lab, where I’m assisting Dr. Baer in his own exploration of the world of nematodes, investigating the variances in mutation rates among different genomic traits.
I also work as a Patient Care Tech at HCA North Florida. I primarily work on the Postpartum unit, where I work alongside nurses to monitor and care for new moms and babies. Outside the lab, I’m actively involved in the UF Club Women’s Water Polo Team, where I am the Vice President.

In the summer of 2024, I had the incredible opportunity to expand my horizons through the UF in Tanzania: Culture and Healthcare program. There, I immersed myself in the local culture while shadowing healthcare professionals in both rural and urban settings. It was an unforgettable experience that enriched my understanding of global health perspectives.
